HAIR (or lack thereof)

Jay has been growing his hair out for over two years now. He first wanted long hair so he could have a ponytail like all of the captains in Horatio Hornblower (but that was when he was only 10). Then, I think, he just liked his long hair. But he recently decided that he'd had enough of long hair and we made an appointment to have it cut. I took him to my hair cutter, Terry, because she is the best in the world (as far as I can tell).

I was certain Jay would have second thoughts, but he didn't seem to. His attachment to his hair was simply physical, not emotional.

As you can see, he's an excellent hair-grower.

Jay decided to donate his hair to Locks of Love, so Terry had his hair braided into two long plaits and chopped them off like that.

Annie was shocked when she saw her big brother's short hair.

Jay thoroughly enjoyed a nice hair washing.

Jay was a very good boy and sat very still during the cut.

The final result is quite handsome.

Some lucky person is going to get a wig made of Jay's shiny, healthy hair.

Sedona Hike

A few times a year we go to Sedona for the day for a long hike. Yesterday was so beautiful I thought I would share some photos of our hike.

There's a sinkhole partway into the hike. Here, everyone is precariously perched on the edge -- well, it's too close for my comfort, anyway.

We stopped for a snack beside the "maiden pools."

During this time of year, you just have to imagine clear pools of water. The butterflies really enjoyed the water, though.

The day was brilliantly sunny with temperatures in the upper 60s.

I'm not quite sure what happened to all of the trees in this area -- fire, maybe, or disease. It looks kind of spooky.

This is the view from the top of our hike. As with all of the Gardner-Hajek adventures, we ended up at our favorite Sedona restaurant, Javelina Cantina, before heading back home.
